I bought my "Grey Market" Seiko SNZJ05 about 5 months ago from a very reputable Seller in Hong Kong. This model began production in the last quarter of 2010 so it's a new design. My understanding is that the movement was made in Singapore and then shipped to Hong Kong to be cased, finished and distributed. In case you were expecting to hear that all Seikos are made in Japan I'm afraid I must disappoint you. All Seikos, except for their "luxury" models are built in Singapore, Malaysia or Hong Kong. This doesn't mean they are of lower quality as all of Seikos facilities are equiped, managed and staffed using the exact same standards as used in their Japanese facilities. Anyway, back to the watch. I couldn't be happier with it. The SNZJ05 weighs in at 6.4 oz (according to the local post office scale) It's heavy because the body and band are made of very substantial and beautifully crafted stainless steel. As is typical of Seiko automatic, series "5" watches it comes with the tried & true 7S36 calibre, 23 jeweled, mechanical movement. Considered by Seiko to be an average quality watch, it proves that perfection doesn't have to cost a fortune. Why was it so cheap? Well, my Seiko was not made to be retailed in The USA. It was built and intended to be sold in The Middle East. The day & date function has the days in English and also in Arabic (kind of cool actually). Buy a Seiko and you may never need to buy another watch again. Shop around! On eBay they average about $130 and online they run about $150 to $200. Shop...BUY and enjoy!
