I got this pellet rifle to shoot targets in the backyard, and not have the police send out the SWAT Team. I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised with the GAMO Big Cat 1200. The last time I enjoyed shooting this much was as an Army Sniper, almost a decade ago. I set up a 50 foot range and went about what I thought would be an impossible task of zeroing the thing. To my very big surprise, my third 3-round shot group, was dead center with all 3 holes connected. Being a light weight pellet, I expected the shots to "wonder" all over the target at that distance.I read all of the reviews and read the bad reviews twice. I really think, those giving the bad reviews had defective rifles. I have bought products with great reviews, but mine turned out to be a lemon. I would return it and get another one.
My only problem now is how to tell the lady who lives with me about my new hobby? She would not approve. She tells me, she is my wife and has certificate, ring and everything, but I don't recall how that happened. Anyway, that is another story. For now, I'll just keep the Big Cat 1200 to myself. I love weekends. As soon as she jumps on her broom and head to the mall, I head to my backyard shooting range.
However, please be careful out there. You need to treat this air gun like any other fire arm. It will hurt you or someone down range, bad. I mounted my targets on a 1x12 pine board. I would have bet my house that a pellet could not go all the way through an inch of wood at 50 feet, (even pine). Glad I didn't make that bet. I would be homeless now. It went through the board and hit the wall behind it. That is enough velocity to penetrate a human skull and scramble what's inside.
The only thing I would change is to add some iron sights, with at least the rear sight being adjustable. They could probably do that without much increase in price. I would love to be able to shoot without the optics at times.
