I have a 3000 size Saros that is a great all-around reel. I wanted something lighter for trout so I bought a 1000 size. It has a much nicer feel for 3 or 4 lb fish. I use both reels at the same time but the 1000 is clearly the more enjoyable one. Of course the lighter rod I use with it has a lot to do with that.I believe the Saros is the sweet spot between very expensive and lower quality models.
I'm now sold on Shimano because of a recent experience with one of their rods. I crushed it in a door jamb. That was a Monday. I sent it off to Shimano and the following Thursday there was a brand new, no charge rod on my door step.
