The PENTAX DCF SW 10x25 binoculars offer high-resolution phase-coated and super-reflective coated roof prisms to provide high resolution, high contrast images. Waterproof and nitrogen filled (JIS Class 6), the DCF SW models allow submersion up to 3 feet. The ultra compact, dual hinge design is exceptionally portable. Helicoid eyepieces ring with four click stops offer the most comfortable eye relief and the fully multi-coated lenses increase light transmission and color quality. The long eye-relief allows for viewing with or without glasses and the click-stop adjustment locks in the right eyepiece diopter. The rubber-covered exterior provides a sure grip and protects the internal mechanisms.

I wanted an inexpensive pocket sized 10x bino with long eye relief, water proof and reasonably good optical quality. I tried Nikon Premier LX-L 10x25 and Swarovski 10x25, both are very nice but are way over my budget. I also tried Olympus 10x25 WP II which has a 6.5 deg FOV, but its off-center image quality is poor and the eye relief is too short for viewing with eye glasses. I like the Olympus 8x25 WP II much better then its 10x brother.

I researched a few more and the only choice for me came to the Pentax 10x25 DCF SW. I ordered this model and have been testing it for a few weeks now. The image looks sharp for almost the entire field, however the 20mm eye relief is a little bit too much, even for viewing with eye glasses. I need to move the viewing position a little bit around to find the "sweet spot".
I tested its FOV, it seems over the 5.0 deg spec, possibly 5.1deg or even a little bit more. I also check its resolution by viewing cars at knowing distances. With it I was able to read CA license plates at 280 meter distance. I was also able to identify the door gap of a silver-gray(medium contrast target) Toyota about 550m away, this translates to a less than 3 arc sec of target size resolved !

For chromatic aberration, I tried to view high contrast objects and sun reflections, it's hard to find color fringing. Mechanically it's smooth with tight and precise focus, although the Chinese workmanship doesn't match the quality of my old "made in Japan" binoculars. Overall I think it's a reasonably good product for the price.
