Arc'teryx Cam SV Glove - Rawhide X-Small Review

Put simply: the Cam SV is a very specialized glove that excels at certain uses. So before I go into details, you should probably stop reading if you need a glove for extreme temperatures or extremely wet environments. The Cam SV was not quite designed for that.

However, what the Cam SV is designed to do is to be a glove with extreme durability while maintaining high dexterity. In fact, I'd argue that this is the most dextrous glove I've ever worn. You can easily tie your shoes while wearing these and placing rock protection (and I imagine ice screws as well) while wearing these is a breeze. The entire palm is coated in an extremely tough looking leather that's held up to some belaying (although to be honest it would be a waste to use these as dedicated belay gloves) and the upper portion is made of a tough softshell material. So far I really haven't had any issues with water seeping in but I can imagine that if you soak them then the softshell will let water through. I've done some limited ice-climbing with these and there were no problems with melting snow soaking in.

The insulation is moderate but not extensive. I personally wouldn't wear these below 15F or so (excluding windchill) unless I was active. On days that are 20F or above though, the insulation keeps my hands warm no matter how hard the wind is raging outside. The tight fit certainly helps with that, since the velcro cuffs are designed to seal the wrist off perfectly without hampering movement like the gators seen on ski gloves.

Overall I highly recommend these.
