Product Description

The Trevala Jigging rod series. This series of rods is designed to be fished with the new Shimano Butterfly jigs. This system stems from the extremely productive Japanese style jigging technique, combining lightweight, light action, yet powerful rods with high speed, high power reels (like Shimano Trinidad Narrow or Stella), Spectra-type no stretch lines, fluorocarbon leaders and unique compact Shimano Butterfly style jigs with aggressive actions and free-swinging hooks.

Shimano Trevala TVS-70ML Spinning Rod Review

I fish the rocky shores of New England inshore salt water, for striped bass, bluefish, tautog & fluke. I haven't used the new F or S series (I forget what the letter is) but The Trevalla series advertised here fit the title above.

Granted, these 6'-7' rods will not outcast a 12'-15' surf rod from shore, but I've been using Trevallas (2 conventional, 1 spinning) for the past 6-7 yrs from a kayak, boat & from shore, with braided line, for trolling tube & worm, all types of jigging, casting or trolling of plugs, soft plastics etc., you name it.

I like these rods so much that I don't care to use any of my other rods any more.

Trevallas look & feel like a light fresh water rod one would use for LMB, & have very good sensitivity, but are able to tame any Striped bass, bluefish, or tautog ever caught by man. I would bet my life on it, that's how much confidence I have in them.

The TVS-70ml is the spinning rod I use for casting, & with 20 lb power pro, the same rod works beautifully from 1/8 oz jig heads with a 4.5 inch baby sluggo for schoolie stripers up to 2,3,4oz plugs or jigs. They also make some heavier spinning rods as well, I might buy a medium spinning also for heavier stuff.

If I want to cast eels for bruiser striped bass I switch to a reel with heavier braid & use the same rod.
For trolling I usually use the casting/conventional rods & have caught striped bass up to 35 lbs. with them. I have never had even the slightest bit of doubt that the rods could handle any fish I've encountered. Once you see & feel the power in these rods you won't either.

Sometimes I wish that the spinning rod had double foot guides instead of single foot but they come with a lifetime warranty. You break one, you get a free replacement, no questions asked. Gotta love Shimano products & service.

If you watch the T.V. series "The Hunt For Big Fish" with Larry Dahlberg you can watch him catch some monster fish with these same rods, including sharks, groupers etc. He has a really good web site also where you can probably still see a picture of a 400+ lb catfish he caught in Surinam on a little medium wt Trevalla rod like I use for striped bass (advertised here on Amazon). I haven't seen them advertised anywhere for less $$ than here, I don't think they're allowed to be sold for less.
