I have been an avid hiker for years and have searched for a great hiking shoe. Hiking boots hurt my ankles, so I need a regular shoe that provides support and stability, as well as superb comfort. My usual complaint is that my foot slides forward so that my toes hit the front of the shoe. After several hours of hiking with my toes hitting the front of the shoe, I can barely take another step, as my toes are seriously in pain. I explained this to the shoe salesman, who recommended Oboz. Because I have a high arch, he also recommended Superfeet inserts. I'm sure my happy feet are due to the combination of the insert and my new Oboz, but the operative word is happy. My feet are happy and I'm ecstatic! Other hiking shoe brands I've tried without comparable happiness are Merrell and Keen. I've only owned one pair of Merrel hiking shoes and one pair of Merrell sandals; loved the sandals and hated the shoes. As for Keen, I have several pair and love them all for their superior comfort, except the hiking shoes, which go down in history as the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever owned, not including dressy heels which I consider torture devices.
