Having umpired minor league pro ball, Babe Ruth League World Series, NCAA and high school games, this is the chest protector I've come to rely on. I've used all the other top protectors and this does the job we umpires want it to do. The Wilson West Vest Platinum chest protector protects the collar bone extremely well by wrapping a hard shell with padded fabric backing around your neck and over the top of your shoulders. No other protection is necessary. The hard outer shell of the protector covering the torso deflects balls without any pain whatsoever. Under the hard shell is a padded fabric backing to keep it very comfortable. It is easy to get on and off by slipping over your head and then connecting the wrap-around belt. There are adjustments that can be made to the straps at the waist and the shoulders to keep the protector in place where it should be. The protector comes in two sizes based on your coat size. Get the correct size and adjust it so the neck area stays up around your neck. This form-fitting chest protector fits easily under your uniform shirt, which should be one size larger than your regular shirt to accommodate the shoulder protection.
